A Good Old Traditional English Pub
Welcome to The Three Horse Shoes – believed to be the oldest pub in Shropshire, with records of a drinking house on this site since 1406. Nestled in the village of Alveley near Bridgnorth, we’re all about hearty home-cooked food, award-winning ales and a warm welcome for everyone – from locals gathered for games and quizzes to families in the beer garden, friends enjoying live music and dogs with waggy tails. With sweeping views of the Clee Hills outside and a roaring fire inside, it’s everything a proper British pub should be.

We serve hearty, home-cooked food Wednesday to Sunday, with something for everyone – whether you’re dropping in for a relaxed lunch of sandwiches, jackets or lighter bites, or tucking into pub classics like fish & chips, pies and burgers. Our menus also feature seasonal specials, vegan favourites, and of course, traditional Sunday roasts. Top it all off with indulgent desserts and you’ve got proper pub food done right. Proudly awarded CAMRA’s Best Pub 2024 and featured in the Good Beer Guide 2025, we know a thing or two about keeping beer. On the bar you’ll find local favourites like Wye Valley HPA and Butty Bach, alongside the legendary Bathams – all poured to perfection and enjoyed in the kind of setting only a historic country pub can provide.

Far Reaching Views, Sunsets & a Play Area for Families
Our spacious beer garden is the perfect place to relax, with countryside views across to the Clee Hills and sunsets that pair perfectly with a pint. There’s plenty of outdoor seating, a large play area for children and dogs are welcome everywhere – with free biscuits inside and even doggy ice cream to enjoy in summer. With the River Severn and Severn Valley Country Park just down the road, it’s the ideal spot to unwind after a walk – stay outdoors under the covered seating, or head in by the fire when the weather turns.

Step inside and you’ll feel the weight of history all around you – crooked timber beams overhead, an open fire that has warmed travellers for generations and walls that have heard more laughter and stories than we’ll ever know. From miners and villagers to walkers and families, people have been gathering here for over six centuries and that sense of tradition lives on today. It’s this mix of history, warmth, and community spirit that makes The Three Horse Shoes so much more than just a pub – it’s a place where everyone instantly feels at home.

Events, Community and a

Our welcoming spaces are also the perfect setting for weddings, birthdays, wakes and family celebrations. Whether it’s a big event or a quiet evening with friends, you’ll find community, laughter and good company – just as people have here for centuries.
